HUA HIN HOSTS ITS FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Nern Chalet Hua Hin, Prachuap Kiri Khan, Thailand – Hua Hin, a seaside resort on the Gulf of Thailand, hosts its very first international contemporary art residency program, starting from July 15, 2018. Nern Chalet Beachfront Hotel, near Khao Takieb in Hua Hin, will be home to twelve international artists during this one month program.
Hua Hin’s first International Contemporary Art Residency Program started with a drop of an idea from a conversation late last year between Naidee Changmoh, a local artist who has gotten the opportunity to visit other countries through similar kinds of residency program and Caranee Thianthai, a long-time supporter of art and the owner of Nern Chalet Beachfront Hotel in Hua Hin who said to him that he should invite his artists friends to Thailand sometimes. A few months later, Naidee returned asking whether she would be interested in hosting the artists; and, to his surprise, she agreed. Since then, both Caranee and Naidee have been busy organizing everything to help inspire these artists on their journey to creating amazing artwork in Thailand.
All-in-all, twelve artists from Australia, Belgium, India, Italy, Japan, Philippines, Spain, Thailand, and Vietnam will use Nern Chalet Beachfront Hotel as their home base to explore Hua Hin and nearby cities to research and craft new artwork from painting to sculpture. Many of the artists have won awards and their work are showcased in museums around the world – MOMA or Museum of Modern Art, The Australian National Gallery Canberra, Singapore Art Museum, to name a few. For these artists, it is a great opportunity to explore and exchange new ideas, develop network and strengthen relationships with other international artists as well as local artists and art organizations. The residency program will culminate and conclude with an exhibition of the artwork produced during their stay, at River City Bangkok from July 11-19, 2018.
The International Contemporary Art Residency Program is an open program, the public is welcome to visit, meet these international artists, learn from them, and/or see their work in development at Nern Chalet Beachfront Hotel.
